I am continuing to work on the sword and it is getting close to completion. Not a whole lot left to do. The latest installment is the making of the guard, handle and pommel. It is an interesting process and I have actually made a couple of different kinds of handles including a wire wrapped handle and a plain wood handle. Anyhoo, you can see the sword making tutorial right here.

The Diorama in Progress
After I finished the Wall Diorama, which took quite a while, I immediately started on the Medieval Village Diorama. This is a project that I have been wanting to do for a very long time. And I have been making great progress on it. The basic layout, basic wiring, terrain making, and rough structure of the buildings is done! Yay, It is starting to look a little bit like a medieval village. Anyhoo, if you want to check out the various installments of that project you can see it both on my website here and on my youtube channel. Here is the youtube playlist
There are currently four videos on youtube and there are five tutorials on my website including design and layout of the diorama, wiring it up and texturing the buildings.

Progress of the sword
THis is just an update on the sword making. It is coming along very nicely. You can see that it has been rough ground and is just about ready for the guard, handle and pommel. That is probably what I will be doing next. The sword blade also has to be hardened and tempered. I will keep you posted.

You might know this or you might not. It is an interesting little tid bit about swords. Can you see that long groove in the blade of the sword?
I have been doing a lot of blacksmithing lately, working on knives and I am working on a sword. So, that means I have been talking to a lot of people about it. And it is interesting to learn that it is often thought that the groove in a sword or a knife is there to prevent suction and to make it easy to get the sword or the knife back out after a stab. And a close variation of this is that the groove allows the blood to freely run out and away from the blade.
Wow, I didn’t realize this would be such a graphic blog post.
Anyhoo, as I have learned about blacksmithing I have learned that blacksmiths put that groove (called a fuller) in the sword to make it strong. And it really works. It makes the sword much stronger. Just kind of a fun little tid bit about swords if you didn’t already know.
If you want to check out real sword making I am currently making one in a forge. You can see part one of that on my youtube channel right here: How to Forge a Sword.

Four Bottles of Cherry Mead
I have been watching this batch of Cherry mead for almost a year now. It is a very promising batch and recipe. Well, it should be close to peaking so if the Patriots beat the Jets tomorrow I am going to open a bottle and see how it is. When it comes to mead making the waiting is always the hardest part.
