Nothing beats a free catalog - except maybe a gift certificate.
Last year I received the catalog and it is great. (the 2007 catalog isn’t out yet.) They have a lot of really nice stuff and the catalog is really well put together. The 2006 catalog is 64 pages and is loaded with a lot of great medieval stuff from swords to maces, figurines, crossbows, lots of katanas, and some gladiator stuff. The cover price is five dollars but they will send it to you for free - all you have to do is fill out their online form. Here is the url:

You can also browse their website: Knight’s Edge website
As a side note: They are currently running a promotion this week only where the suits of armor are shipped for free so if you have been thinking about a suit of medieval armor now might be the time - sans shipping is quite a savings on a purchase like this.

When writing fantasy it is very easy to let your imagination soar and to create amazing worlds and incredible creatures; and while you may give your reader something to enjoy you won’t really make a connection with him or her. The thing that will make the connection with your reader is the internal conflict your protagonist has to go through. This is what makes him or her human and this is where you have a memorable impact on your reader.
There is one steadfast rule when writing fiction and you probably know this rule. Your character has to grow. There has to be an internal path that is taken. And even if your writing takes place on an exotic world with a stable of wondrous creatures the main character is still human - and even if your main character is not human your reader is!
Your main character may have to rescue a damsel in distress, slay a dragon, or find the magical sword and all of this is good fun but it is not where the real power of epic fantasy lies. The power lies in how your main character must change in order to accomplish his goals. The real strength and the impelling part of the story isn’t the slaying of the dragon, it’s in the story of the main character’s development of the courage to try.
A good example of this conflict comes from the ultimate work in the realm of epic fantasy: The Lord of the Rings. In it, Frodo Baggins has a ring that whisks him off into a nether world and makes him invisible in this one. But we don’t actually see a whole lot of that very flashy idea. It only happens, very briefly, a few times. What we do get a lot of is the conflict that Frodo has, within himself, to stay centered in what he believes and to resist the temptations of the ring. This is a very major theme in the story and it is where we connect with Frodo. We can identify with his struggle to maintain what he believes and his struggle toward growth and development. The part about the powerful ring is albeit fun and one of the best things about fantasy but the reader can’t really relate and make a real emotional connection. After all, how many people that you know who own a magical ring?
As you are writing your epic fantasy novel remember that all the wondrous worlds, scenes, and creatures are just in addition to the real meaning of epic fantasy –the struggle within us as humans.

I have put together information and lots of pics about the project where I built a virtual reality pod for playing warcraft. It is complete with a mini refrigerator, telephone, dual computers and the bucket seat from an old Volkswagen. The project information is located here:

I have not posted to the blog in a week because I have been really busy with a fun project.
As you know I have been playing warcraft and really enjoying it! Although, the project has limited my warcraft time
The project is something that I have been wanting to do for a long time and it has been on my to-do list for seemingly forever. It is a virtual reality kind of chamber and I never really knew what I would actually do in it. But the idea hit me that I could play Warcraft in it! This seemed like it would be fun so I went ahead and spent the week building the chamber and it came out cool. And now that it is done I can get back to the blog, the websites, and a bit of warcraft.
I am putting together a project page where you can learn more about the chamber, how I built it, what I used, and how you can make one too. I will keep you posted and let you know where on stormthecastle.com you can see this. For now here is a quick picture of the inside of the chamber. (I think I am going to call it the Warcraft Pod.)

Going over my log files and affiliate information with Amazon.com I can see that many of you that visit my websites and this blog are very savvy shoppers when it comes to medieval items> Often times I am made aware of a great sale on Amazon for a sword, or other piece of medieval equipment through a sale. This made me think that I really should tap into the power of ebay for this kind of savvy shopping. So today I have joined up with ebay and have started the process of adding ebay alerts, sales and items to my websites. I will keep you posted as to my progress so you can keep on top of any hot items in the medieval/fantasy genre.
This is a sample small banner of real time offerings from ebay. I will do up some code and really drill down into the ebay offerings so I can target the things and sales that you are looking for.
