I have put together the initial series of books to giveaway in conjunction with this blog and my series of websites. It begins today so you can sign-up. The first three weeks have some great Beowulf books and this is in conjunction with the work I am doing for the new Beowulf Movie. The fourth week I am giving away all the first three books from a fantasy quartet.
For the first four weeks (contest starts every monday and ends every sunday at midnight) here is what I am giving away:
- Week 1: Beowulf: A Tale of Blood, Heat, and Ashes
- Week 2: Beowulf: The Graphic Novel
- Week 3: Beowulf: Illustrated Children’s Book
- Week 4: All three hardcover volumes of the Pellinor Fantasy series
This is only the first four weeks and I have more giveaways after that! And these books are courtesy of the wonderful publisher of quality children’s books Candlewick Press. To learn more about the books hop on over to their website.
Quick overview of the rules:
You can only sign up once per week. You have to give your email in order to enter the contest and your email will not be used, sold, or given away for anything at all. All emails will be deleted after each weekly contest winner is chosen. I am not building an email list here, I am just giving away free books to my web visitors.

I have a lot of stuff planned for you this week because last week was a very busy medieval weekend for me. Here are some highlights:
- Some New Adventures in the brewing of Mead
- I went to a Renaissance Faire this weekend so have lots of pics and stuff to write about

One of the best things about being a fan of all things medieval is the plethora of potential projects that are available. And these projects are not just things to hang on the wall. You can make lots of things like mini-catapults and of course hand-held weapons like the beautiful dragon crossbow you see here.
It is done in the style circa the 13th century and it has an absolutely gorgeous dragon carving in the wooden stock. The dragon’s head is on the left near the steel bow.
This crossbow is part of a project called the Wiesenfeuer Crossbow Project which I believe is affiliated with the Society for Creative Anachronism. Anyway, a web visitor submitted this picture and other pictures. And you can see more pictures about this absolutely gorgeous dragon carved crossbow on the Medieval website.
