This is an article I have just completed. It gives an overview of how to put medieval weapons in your writing.
If you write fantasy or are thinking about writing fantasy you probably are going to have medieval weapons in your created world. Today’s reader of fantasy is very savvy when it comes to weapons and armor and you want your writing to be accurate and to make sense when it comes to weapons. They are often a big part of the story. In this article I explain some important things about medieval weapons, how to get them right, and I look at some of the more popular types of weapons.
This article is quite large so I am not going to put the whole thing on this blog. An overview of some of the topics I cover are:
-
how to get the weapon to sync flawlessly with the technology of the world you are building,
-
how medieval weapons are subject to an arms race and the advances of technology
-
A philosophy of using weapons and why you should avoid having uber weapons (every uber weapon should at least come at some cost to the user
-
A Brief overview of how medieval weapons developed in our world because of advances in metal working skills and the availability of ores
-
A list of some of the more common medieval weapons like the flail, mace, sword, polearms etc.
You can read the full article on my medieval website here

Over the past few days I have noticed a big bump in sales of Medieval and Renaissance clothing and costumes. People are starting to make plans for halloween. Thing about costumes for halloween is that if you are ordering online you really do have to get an early start. They sell out fast and you have to factor in time for shipping. Anyhoo, I have spent some time upgrading some of the costume sections on my websites. There are lots of nice outfits and accessories and everything is available through amazon.com. Here is the main page:

Do you have expertise in use of or history of Scimitars?
I have been contacted by someone working on a project for an A list media company. This is a for a film project and they are looking for someone who has scimitar expertise. They contacted me but I really don’t have that kind of expertise and I thought maybe someone out there might. So, if you have some expertise with them you can either submit a comment or send me a message and I will get put you in touch with the person who inquired.
Now I don’t think this is any kind of a paid gig but I really think it might be a nice opportunity to have some fun and who knows, depending on how much expertise they are looking for, maybe you would get a film credit
