Some Mead Making Stuff

October 30th, 2009

I have just posted a couple of new things to my mead making website (The Joy of Mead Making) First off I have posted an interesting new recipe for making a rose petal mead. It is quite simple because you can follow any plain mead recipe and just add rose petals to it. The recipe is halfway down on my mead recipe page. If you are looking for an interesting new mead recipe this one could be the ticket.

Also, I have posted a hilarious story from a new mead maker who…err… bottled his mead way too soon. Well, if you are familiar with mead making you know what happened to his bottles of mead. Read the story here: The first time was awkward, explosive, and messy!

New Paper Project: The Parthenon - Acropolis

October 29th, 2009

The paper Parthenon Project

I just finished a new Paper Project that you can download, print up and make yourself. It is the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens Greece. The project is a complete and free download that you can make. And it is a pretty easy yet fun project. Also included with the project is a youtube video that shows you the Paper Project as it is completed along with some actual footage I took of the real Parthenon in Athens. Here is the location of the project: The paper Parthenon - Acropolis

Some Runelords stuff

October 9th, 2009

Occasionally I will post information about David Farland’s Runelords series. Mostly because there has been a lot of ups and downs about the movie. As far as I can tell by reading the official Runelords website the movie project is currently “in statis”. Yeck, anyway what brought me around to thinking about this is the upcoming release of the eight novel in the Runelords series (Chaosbound). It is scheduled to be released on Amazon.com on Oct 13th. The Ozark Medieval Fortress

October 8th, 2009

I was listening to the radio last night and the host of the show mentioned something that really hit me as true. He said that we live in a microwave mentality. He said that people put pop tarts in the microwave for one minute and with 17 seconds to go we will say to ourselves “The pop tarts are probably done”. So we take them out without even waiting the full minute.  Wow, this struck me as almost profound. I will do this and I am sure that there are plenty of other people who do this too. Is this the kind of instant world that we live in? Is one minute even too long to wait?

Well, this brings me to this blog post where I want to take a look at a project that is planned to take 20 years to complete. Yes, 20 years. How is that for going counter to the current state of living?

And, this different way of looking at time and life is perfectly wrapped up in the project itself. It is a medieval fortress - which is something that is meant to last centuries.

This is all about a project called The Ozark Medieval Fortress and it is a being built in Arkansas. And they are going about it in an interesting way. They are staying true to the medieval methods and techniques of building a fortress. They are even donning authentic garb. It is an interesting socio-economic project and they are looking for volunteers to help! I have already sent them off an email because I may end up going down there and volunteering for a week or two. It would be an amazing experience.

If you want to learn more about this project you can check out their website: The Ozark Medieval Fortress
