Fan of Lovecraft? Want to see a 21st century silent film?
August 25th, 2006One of the great things about the genre of fantasy is that imagination and creativity are the corner stones that it is built on. There are as many different fantasy themes/genres/worlds/characters as there are authors and film makers. Experimentation is a basic tenet and sometimes it connects with an audience and sometimes it doesn’t.
Here is a project that connects. It’s Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu made into a silent film. They use a process they call “Mythoscope” which blends modern and vintage film techniques.
This film is a selection at many film festivals and has received several awards. It just seems to me to be an interesting project. And lovecraft is the perfect author for something like this. The silent film in the genre of fantasy can be a very powerful experience as in Nosferatu or Metropolis.
Take a look at their website, you can download free screenshots and look at production pictures of watch the movie trailer.
